Visit fee
Consultation fee is an additional charge that a healthcare provider has the right to request from an insured person when providing healthcare services covered by the Health Insurance Fund.
The consultation fee is up to 20 euros.
The maximum consultation fee for a physiotherapist is 5 euros, if the service is provided to an insured person who is:
Under 19 years of age
Pregnant (except when outpatient treatment is provided in connection with pregnancy or childbirth)
The mother of a child under one year of age
Over 63 years of age
A recipient of incapacity for work pension or old-age pension under the State Pension Insurance Act
A person with partial or no work capacity established under the Work Ability Support Act
Unemployed within the meaning of the Labour Market Services Act
A recipient of subsistence benefit under the Social Welfare Act or a family member thereof, if subsistence benefit has been paid to the person or their family during the month of providing outpatient specialist medical care or in the two preceding months
Note! A consultation fee cannot be charged:
When outpatient treatment is provided in connection with pregnancy or childbirth
When referred internally within the institution to another doctor or a healthcare specialist of equivalent status
When referred by a doctor to another doctor of the same specialty (including referral to another healthcare institution)
Within 365 days, if the doctor or healthcare specialist of equivalent status keeps the patient under their own follow-up or treatment
Note! If a patient fails to appear at the agreed appointment time or cancels their booked appointment less than 24 hours before the visit or procedure, the healthcare provider has the right to charge the patient double the consultation fee at the next visit (Health Insurance Act § 70 section 6).
